Protecting children is more important than money
Senate Bill 29, the Child Victims Act, will greatly assist in
protecting children in Delaware from sexual abuse by eliminating the statute of
limitation in civil cases and allowing a two-year look-back window for
those abused.
Today, the bill will be reviewed in the House Judiciary Committee.
Approval by the House, and its signing by the governor, will send a
message.
However, there are two major hurdles for this bill: money and special
interests.
A few legislators in the House believe that nonprofit groups and
insurance companies' money are more important than the protection of
children. Nonprofit organizations whose gross negligence allowed employees to
abuse children should be held fully accountable. Insurance providers
should pay, as they accepted premium payments over the years.
